How To Extend The Life Of Your Hot Water Unit

Table of Contents

Did you know there is an easy way to extend the life of your existing hot water unit?

90% of all hot water units are fitted with a sacrificial anode and these are there to ensure the hot water unit will last for the manufactures warranty period.

To keep it simple the anode is there to rust instead of your expensive hot water system.

Anodes need replacing approximately every 4- 5 years but it is really dependant on the water quality at each installation and the location of your property on the Gold Coast could also be a factor.

Some common brands of storage hot water units that will need replacing are Rheem, Vulcan, Dux, Everhot and Aquamax. The Saxon heat exchange systems do not have an anode.

Replacing the anodes is something manufacturers would prefer you didn’t know as by getting this simply replacement completed it will add years onto the life of your hot water tank delaying you having to install a whole new system.

So instead of doing nothing and waiting to replace the hot water unit costing you big bucks, just have a look on your unit to find the date it was manufactured. If you find it is over 5 years old I would recommend getting the anode replaced. It is a lot cheaper than having to buy a new hot water unit.

So just ask yourself one question; “do you want to extend the life of your hot water unit?”

If you answered yes give Capital Plumbing, your local Gold coast plumbers, a call. We specialise in emergency plumbing repairs and trying to work with you so you don’t have any nasty surprises.
